The author was a professor of History in Yale University. Written in 1897. Published by The MacMillan Company. It says New York above the publisher and says London: Macmillan & Co., LTD. below it. The binding has come apart a little. Also you can see a label and signature by someone on an inside page. The signature says “H.F. Schrader.Deo. 1900 Ernst Joseph Schrader.” See pictures.
     The following is written in the preface. “The difficulty of attempting to compress the whole history of the French nation within the limits of a book of this size must be evident at a glance. It requires of necessity the exclusion of many matters of interest which belong to that history, and it is not likely that any two writers would agree in their selection of the facts to be omitted.” This is only part of the preface.
