Alexander DVD Movie Director’s Cut

This is also a widescreen edition. This set is the movie disc only. The original bonus DVD which had documentaries on it, is missing. Oliver Stone’s director’s cut of Alexander is unusual in that it’s actually shorter than the theatrical version (167 minutes to 175). That’s apparent early, as 15 minutes of footage–largely political manipulations and such–have been removed from the first hour of the movie, and it’s an improvement to get to the action more quickly. Two of the major scenes aren’t gone, however, but moved to later in the movie as flashbacks. The other notable change is a reduction of the homosexuality subtext.
The story is an epic that is as daring and ambitious as its subject, a relentless conqueror who by the age of 32 had amassed the greatest empire the world had ever seen. Past and present collide to form the puzzle of the protagonist, a tapestry of triumphs and tragedies in which childhood memories and Alexander’s rise to power unfold.
