People tend to love cast iron for a multitude of reasons. Not only is cast iron durable and lasts a long time, it also, unlike modern cookware, cooks better and food cooked on cast iron tastes better over time. Its a win win scenario.

Take a look at our how to article on how to season your cast iron cookware before cooking your next meal. Once you’ve read that and have completed that process; you’re ready to cook.

Step 1

Begin with your cast iron completely dry. Once your pan is dry begin by pouring oil in it and rubbing it thoroughly into your entire pan on both sides. This is to cover the pores of the porous surface to allow for best possible results. Take a paper towel or cloth and get as much oil off as you can.

Step 2

Cook at 450-500 degree oven for 20-23 minutes.

Step 3

Place cooking oil in the center of the pan to allow for a total non stick cooking surface.

Step 4

Shortly after cooking, clean your pan with salt and warm water and rub down with lard. This step should be done when your cast iron is still warm.

Remember, cooking with cast iron is fantastic as you can take the skillet or pot off the stove top, and place directly into the oven for a seamless experience. Additionally, if you are into the outdoors, cast iron is great to bring along as you can cook directly on a camp fire. Cast iron is a must have for all occasions.
